The tabla is a popular Indian percussion instrument used in the classical,popular and devotional music of the Indian subcontinent and in Hindustaniclassical music. The instrument consists of a pair of hand drums ofcontrasting sizes and timbres. To call tabla a mere percussion instrumentwould be a vast understatement of its musical depth, as one of the mostrevered of all classical Indian musical instruments. We worked with tablamaster and jazz percussionist Sameer Gupta to capture a range of tablarhythm, melody and soul. Sameer has been a student and practitioner inthe art of percussion for nearly 25 years, traveling the world to studyand perform in some of the worlds most prestigious institutions andvenues.This library contains over 1300 unique phrases, spanning over 2 hours oflive tabla phrases, exploring traditional and contemporary poly rhythmsand grooves. We recorded close and dry, in wide stereo. and covered awide range of tempos. Instruments are tuned to Middle C, with key switchpitch control to allow shifting by up to + 7 semitones. The libraryincludes Kontakt amp; EXS24 patches, with open wav directories for directsample use in any software that supports 24 bit .wav format.Please note that this library does not auto sync to host tempo and allBPM values are approximate, due to natural poly rhythm and groove drift.These carefully tuned multi timbral instruments do not respond well tobeat slicing or time stretching. Tabla is traditionally the force thatdrives the pulse in classical Indian music and we felt that it was vitalto preserve natural tonal character, groove and flow. While all samplesloop seamlessly, we find that they are best used like our solo vocallibraries. Each of Sameers phrases naturally evolves into the next,allowing the sequence of tones and grooves to rise and fall in intensity,detail and musicality.Articulations include uniquely recorded tabla rhythms at: 70 BPM loopsphrases 80 BPM loopsphrases 90 BPM loopsphrases 100 BPM loopsphrases 110 B
